Bale Mountains

The Bale Mountains National Park protects Ethiopia’s second-highest mountain range and it is the best place for viewing a cross section of the country’s unique vertebrates, including Ethiopian Wolf, mountain Nyala, Menelik’s bushbuck, giant mole rat and 16 endemic bird species. The national park offers good facilities to hikers and can also be crossed by vehicles or horseback. A new hiking and trekking circuit outside of the national park, ranks as one of the best-organized ecotourism projects in Ethiopia.
